Title: Jejunal diverticulosis presenting as an acute emergency. Author: Khan HS, Ayyaz M. Journal: J Coll Physicians Surg Pak; 2015 Apr; 25 Suppl 1():S20-1. PubMed ID: 25933452. Abstract: Diverticulosis of jejunum is a relatively rare disease of bowel. Jejunal diverticula are false diverticula with projections of mucosa and serosa without the muscular layer. These manifest as diverticulitis, bleeding, perforation or intestinal obstruction. There should be a high index of suspicion when patients present with chronic central abdominal pain, malabsorption and anaemia. Sometimes they are just incidentally picked up on investigations. Laparoscopy can be valuable in diagnosis and treatment as most of the times jejunal diverticulosis can be treated conservatively with surgery required for generalized peritonitis and massive gastrointestinal bleeding. A 33-year man repeatedly presented to emergency with abdominal pain which resolved with analgesics until he developed constipation, vomiting, fever and severe abdominal pain. He had to undergo laparotomy which revealed multiple jejunal diverticula. Resection of the involved gut portion was done. The patient did fine postoperatively.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
