Title: Love at a Distance: Aggression and Hatred in a Schizoid Personality. Author: Rosa MH. Journal: Psychoanal Rev; 2015 Aug; 102(4):503-30. PubMed ID: 26290945. Abstract: This paper explores the history of aggression as a drive derivative with a particular emphasis on understanding the role that it plays in the schizoid personality. The author's hypothesis is that schizoid defenses reveal a distinction between aggression and what is commonly referred to as "hatred." Hatred is a defensive maneuver intended to control aggression. It is not a destructive force embedded within it. I propose that the schizoid person defends himself or herself by engaging in a sustained seduction away from the aggression embedded within love.
