    Abstract:
    Three nurses who met at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing were the architects of professional nursing education and the founders of the major professional organizations in nursing: Isabel Hampton Robb, Lavinia Lloyd Dock and Mary Adelaide Nutting. Their relationship was an important part of the context in which feminism, social reform and nursing came together at the turn of the century. This paper explores the social context that structured their professional interests as well as their personal relationships.
