Title: Delayed phalaris grass toxicosis in sheep and cattle. Author: Nicholson SS, Olcott BM, Usenik EA, Casey HW, Brown CC, Urbatsch LE, Turnquist SE, Moore SC. Journal: J Am Vet Med Assoc; 1989 Aug 01; 195(3):345-6. PubMed ID: 2768059. Abstract: A phalaris grass (Phalaris caroliniana) caused neurologic signs and lesions in cattle and sheep. The sheep were hyperexcitable and uncoordinated, with severe muscle twitching, stiff gait, and head nodding. The cattle were thin, nervous, and ataxic. One feature of chronic phalaris toxicosis in these cases was onset of signs weeks or months after removal of the animals from the forage.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
