  • Title: [Surgical treatment of functional disorders of the hand in sequelae of birth injuries of the brachial plexus in children].
    Author: Merkulov VN.
Journal: Ortop Travmatol Protez; 1989 Jul; (7):45-7. PubMed ID: 2812741.
    Abstract:
The author analyses the results of treatment of 26 patients aged 5 to 15 with consequences of birth injury of the brachial plexus of lower and mixed types. The main task in the treatment of this category of the patients is the restoration of the hand function which is achieved by means of tendon--and myoplasty and derotational osteotomy of the humerus or the bones of the forearm or by their combination. Diversity of clinical manifestations determines a strictly individual approach to the treatment of every patient. In stage-by-stage treatment of the consequences of birth injury of the brachial plexus of mixed type it is advisable to make successive surgical interventions from the bottom to the top.
