    Failure of the mechanical parts in a valve prosthesis is a rare, but life-threatening complication. The incidence depends on the type of valve. We present a case of outflow strut fracture of a Björk-Shiley 70 degrees convexo-concave mitral valve prosthesis, and discuss diagnosis and treatment.
