    Abstract:
    The influence of a systemic metronidazole therapy in case of marked marginal periodontitis on clinical parameter and the subjective pocket flora was examined. The medication was done at the time of recolonization after mechanical local therapy. Then a follow-up examination was carried out over 12 weeks. Metronidazole has influence on clinical parameter and the composition of the subgingival flora so that at a strict indication the metronidazole use in combination with a mechanical local therapy seems to be useful.
