Title: Pharmacology of neuroleptics in use in the United States. Author: Richelson E. Journal: J Clin Psychiatry; 1985 Aug; 46(8 Pt 2):8-14. PubMed ID: 2862140. Abstract: The currently available data on the pharmacology of antipsychotic drugs, particularly on the neurotransmitter receptor blockade by this class of drugs, provide the clinician with practical and valuable information for choosing medication for the psychotic patient. Neuroleptics vary widely in their affinities for various receptors, and these differences help to explain the variations in their propensities to cause certain adverse effects in patients. By choosing a drug with low affinity for certain receptors, the clinician can minimize some of the adverse effects of neuroleptics.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
