Abstract: In severely injured hands with loss of the thumb and irreparable damage to one or more fingers, the thumb can often be reconstructed by transfer of a comparatively useless finger remnant. Sometimes this reconstruction can be performed at the time of primary treatment, but generally this is done as a secondary procedure.
