  • Title: Diabetes and healing: a review of the literature.
    Author: Pearl SH, Kanat IO.
    Journal: J Foot Surg; 1988; 27(3):268-70. PubMed ID: 3042853.
    Abstract:
Blood sugar control is an important factor for healing in the diabetic surgical patient. Careful assessment preoperatively of all patients for glucose is essential. A surgical zone of serum glucose should be established for diabetics, and this zone should be maintained throughout the procedure and postoperative period. Blood sugar control should be maintained by the patient throughout the healing phase, as poor control may interfere with the healing process.
