    Abstract:
    Peripheral end of the cut n. vagus was stimulated in experiments on frogs, pigeons, ducks, rats, rabbits, cats, dogs and monkeys. Synchronizing of bursts of stimuli with the heart rate enabled to control the heart rate. Stimulation of the sympathetic lower-cardiac nerve shifted the control range upwards in the frequency scale. Synchronizing and tonic components were revealed in the functional structure of the vagal effect. A possible role of revealed phenomena in adaptive regulation of the heart, is discussed.
