Title: Amphotericin B methyl ester: evaluation for intravitreous use in experimental fungal endophthalmitis. Author: McGetrick JJ, Peyman GA, Nyberg MA. Journal: Ophthalmic Surg; 1979 Jul; 10(7):25-9. PubMed ID: 314613. Abstract: Amphotericin B methyl ester, a water-soluble derivative of amphotericin B, is an experimental antifungal agent. Intravitreous injection of 5 and 10 micrograms of amphotericin B methyl ester in the normal rabbit eye does not cause toxic changes that can be detected clinically, microscopically, or by electroretinography. A single intravitreous injection of 5 micrograms was effective in reversing the course of exogenous Candida fungal endophthalmitis when administered within five days after inoculation of the infecting organism.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
