Title: Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. State legislative activity. Author: Lewis HE. Journal: JAMA; 1987 Nov 06; 258(17):2410-4. PubMed ID: 3478503. Abstract: Concern over the public health implications of AIDS has resulted in considerable legislative activity at the state level. In this article, a lawyer with the American Medical Association's Department of State Legislation reviews AIDS-related state laws enacted through October 6, 1987. Lewis summarizes the issues and gives examples of states that have enacted legislation in ten major subject areas: (1) antibody testing, (2) blood and blood products, (3) confidentiality, (4) employment, (5) housing, (6) informed consent, (7) insurance, (8) marriage, (9) prison population, and (10) reporting. A table of state legislation specifically addressing AIDS accompanies the article.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
