Title: CSF evaluation in neurologic disease. Author: el-Mallakh RS. Journal: Am Fam Physician; 1987 Jun; 35(6):112-8. PubMed ID: 3504098. Abstract: Contraindications to performing a lumbar puncture include local infection, intracranial hypertension and complete spinal block. Routine parameters include pressure, appearance, glucose, protein and cytology. Specific studies such as antigen-antibody tests may identify infectious agents. The color of the CSF may indicate infection, previous hemorrhage or, rarely, metastatic melanoma. The IgG-albumin index is useful when there is inflammation, as in multiple sclerosis.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
