Title: [Complication of an intra-articular injection with corticosteroids]. Author: Perolini S, Paschoud C, Venkatachalam A. Journal: Rev Med Suisse; 2022 Nov 16; 18(804):2181-2183. PubMed ID: 36382980. Abstract: Osteoarthritis is a growing pathology due to aging population and sedentary lifestyles. Pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments are available, but their effectiveness is debatable. We describe the case of a 73-year-old woman who benefited from intra-articular corticosteroids injection for refractory knee arthritis. This procedure was complicated by a septic arthritis requiring hospitalization, joint lavage, and intravenous antibiotic treatment. To date, there is no clear consensus regarding the use of intra-articular corticosteroid injection. Thus, the choice of treatment must be made according to patient's comorbidities and preferences. Patients should be informed about the potential complications and lack of proven long-term efficacy.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
