Title: Neonatal Iatrogenic Calcinosis Cutis and Heterotopic Calcification Causing Peripheral Brachial Palsy: Case Report and Review of Literature. Author: Sakka SA, Haddad W, Mansor J. Journal: JBJS Case Connect; 2023 Apr 01; 13(2):. PubMed ID: 37093983. Abstract: CASE: Iatrogenic heterotopic calcification and calcinosis cutis secondary to extravasations of intravenous calcium is very rare. We report a case of a neonate treated with intravenous calcium resulting in extravasations causing heterotrophic calcification and calcinosis cutis with subcutaneous mass causing perinatal peripheral brachial palsy. CONCLUSION: We highlight these rare potential complications of calcium extravasations and recommend conservative treatment and the avoidance of the temptation of surgical excision of any bony lumps as they resolve spontaneously in time. These complications should not be confused as a fracture with callus formation and periosteal reaction.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
