  • Title: Evaluation of the carpal scaphoid.
Author: Hankin FM, Smith PA, Braunstein EM.
Journal: Am Fam Physician; 1986 Aug; 34(2):129-32. PubMed ID: 3751832.
    Abstract:
Fracture of the carpal scaphoid usually results from a fall on an outstretched dorsiflexed wrist. Snuffbox tenderness is an important clue. Because the fracture line may not be visible on the initial roentgenograms, follow-up films are often required. Direct palpation of the distal pole of the scaphoid can enhance the evaluation of wrist pain.
