    Abstract:
    The steroid dosages of oral contraceptives have declined substantially since the 1960s. With the dosage reduction there is evidence that the major risks associated with oral contraceptive use have also been reduced. More research is needed to determine whether current preparations, such as the triphasics, offer further advantages.
