    Abstract:
    The authors describe the main manifestations of the age-related specificity of mental disturbances in old age: a growth in the number of mental disorders with ageing, simplification of the psychopathological phenomenon and loosening of ties inside the syndrome. A suggestion is made that the involutional process underlying changes in mental disorders known by earlier age periods also determines the unity of psychoses characteristic of old age (organic and functional) which may be considered as manifestations of general gerontobiosis.
