  • Title: [Relation between blood circulation in the lower extremities in man and the level of physical fitness].
    Author: Tkhorevskiĭ VI, Belitskaia LA.
Journal: Fiziol Zh SSSR Im I M Sechenova; 1986 Sep; 72(9):1260-8. PubMed ID: 3781056.
    Abstract:
A decrease of the general physical working capacity leads to an increase in blood flow rate in the resting m. gastrocnemius, reduces the maximal possible peak blood flow, causes a fall in the total blood volume in the muscle during the recovery period, increases deposition of blood in the veins, their distensibility and capacity, increases the capillary filtration coefficient. A more obvious arterial and venous constriction, an increased vascular resistance, heart rate and arterial pressure during the cold test show that the sympathetic nervous system has a higher tone in subjects with a lower level of physical fitness.
