Title: Metabolic changes in pregnancy relevant to diabetes mellitus. Author: Lind T. Journal: Postgrad Med J; 1979 May; 55(643):353-7. PubMed ID: 382168. Abstract: The alterations in carbohydrate metabolism during pregnancy are discussed and possible mechanisms for these changes are put forward. It is stressed that the raised levels of plasma glucose, the enhanced response to insulin and the decreased tissue sensitivity to insulin are all features of normal pregnancy.
