    Abstract:
    A fracture of the mandibular condyle is a common fracture of the mandible. After the diagnosis has been made, there are various treatment options: wait and see, conservative or surgical. Which of these treatment options is best depends on several different factors and is often the subject of debate. A common complication of a fracture of the mandibular condyle is malocclusion. Malocclusion can cause problems - even in the long term - for which the patient often requires secondary treatment. Een fractuur van het collum mandibulae is een veel voorkomende fractuur van de onderkaak. Na het stellen van de diagnose zijn er verschillende behandelmogelijkheden: expectatief, conservatief of operatief. Welke van deze behandelmogelijkheden het beste is, hangt af van verschillende factoren en levert nogal eens discussie op. Een vaak voorkomende complicatie van een fractuur van het collum mandibulae is malocclusie. Malocclusie kan - ook op de lange termijn - problemen geven, waarvoor de patiënt dan vaak secundair nog behandeld moet worden.
