  • Title: [Clinical multiparametric monitoring of newborn infants].
    Author: Välimäki I, Antilla H, Laine M.
Journal: Klin Padiatr; 1985; 197(4):326-9. PubMed ID: 3930831.
    Abstract:
Neonatal respiratory disturbances are treated by oxygen and modern sophisticated ventilatory assistance ensuring simultaneously adequate tissue perfusion. Intensive care is often rather aggressive. By continuous monitoring of heart-rate variability, blood pressure, respiration rate, esophageal pressure difference and transcutaneous blood gases it is possible for a neonatologist to apply optimal intensive care. In this way complications such as hypoxic brain damage, retrolental fibroplacia and bronchopulmonary dysplacia may be avoided.
