    Abstract:
    This article presents the guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of tinea versicolor. The areas discussed are clinical presentation, etiology, pathogenesis, differential, diagnosis, treatment and patient counseling. Microscopic technique and use of the Wood's light are described in detail. Multiple treatment options are presented with consideration for side effects, cost and compliance. Patient education is discussed as an important component of treatment and an element that affects patient satisfaction.
