Title: [Side effects of various drugs acting on the eye]. Author: Thurn G. Journal: Fortschr Med; 1972 Jun 01; 90(16):624-8. PubMed ID: 4156346. Abstract: The ophthalmological effects of several classes of drugs, including ovulation inhibitors, are discussed. Most of the literature on the side effects of ovulation inhibitors has reported individual cases of arterial and venous occlusion of vessels supplying the eye, and papillitis and retrobulbar neuritis in the area of the optic nerve. In general, patients are 20-30 years old, with no previous history of thromboembolism, but coagulopathies and hypertension beginning at the time of treatment are sometimes noted. Improvement and even disappearance of symptoms usually follows within 4-12 weeks after medication is discontinued. Patients with organic or functional cardiovascular anomalies are particularly disposed to thromboembolism under treatment with oral contraceptives.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
