Title: Antibodies in human sera to rabbit erythrocytes. Author: Tönder O, Natvig JB, Matre R. Journal: Immunology; 1967 Jun; 12(6):629-37. PubMed ID: 4165391. Abstract: A panel of 1234 human sera was tested for agglutination of rabbit erythrocytes. All the 880 sera from healthy blood donors contained agglutinins ranging in titres from 8 to 1024. Of the 345 sera from patients suffering from various diseases, seven gave higher titres than the blood donors, and five did not contain agglutinins. Most of the sera with very high titres were from patients with the chronic cold haemagglutinin syndrome, while the non-agglutinating sera were from patients with agammaglobulinaemia. The test with rabbit erythrocytes can conveniently be used as a screening test for agammaglobulinaemia. The agglutinating activity was found in the γG-, γM- and γA-globulins. Cold and warm agglutinins were found within each immunoglobulin class. The γA cold agglutinins were not inactivated by mercaptoethanol, while the γA warm agglutinins were.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
