Title: Effect of oral contraceptives on folate economy--a study in female rats. Author: Lakshmaiah N, Bamji MS. Journal: Horm Metab Res; 1979 Jan; 11(1):64-7. PubMed ID: 428912. Abstract: Daily administration of one tenth of a tablet of Ovulen-50 (ethinodiol diacetate, 1 mg, ethinylestradiol, 50 microgram) to adult female rats resulted in an increase in the liver and kidney folate levels, increased urinary excretion of folate and a fall in serum folate while red blood cell folate levels remained unaffected. The tissue folate levels did not indicate adverse effect of OCA on folate economy of the body.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
