Title: Bacteremia and meningitis following fiberoptic bronchoscopy. Author: Alexander WJ, Baker GL, Hunker FD. Journal: Arch Intern Med; 1979 May; 139(5):580-3. PubMed ID: 443952. Abstract: Bacteremia and meningitis due to Streptococcus pneumoniae developed in a 52-year-old man 28 hours after an otherwise uncomplicated fiberoptic bronchoscopy. The patient responded to antimicrobial therapy and supportive care and later underwent pneumonectomy for carcinoma. This report reinforces previous observations that bacteremia may occasionally be associated with the performance of fiberoptic bronchoscopy.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
