Title: [Morbidity in legal abortions in the Perleberg District]. Author: Berg J. Journal: Zentralbl Gynakol; 1974 Aug 30; 96(35):1111-5. PubMed ID: 4440310. Abstract: The incidence of complications of legal abortion in the Perleberg district (East germany) is discussed, based on an analysis of 823 legal abortions, performed between January 1, 1972 - June 30, 1973. Operative technique was standardized: dilatation with Hegar dilators, vacuum aspiration followed by curettage. No deaths occurred. Operative complications included perforation (2), cervical tears (10), and hemorrhage (1). Early complications included inflammation and/or fever (44), and bleeding (30). Inflammations were seen in 42 other patients after 3-4 weeks. In the period 1965-1973 the pregnancy rate has declined from 119 to 85/1000 women aged 15-45, and the pregnancy interruption rate has risen from 2.9 to 32.5/1000 women (2.8-70.3/100 births). The necessity for more thorough contraceptive education is stressed, in view of the still considerable dangers of abortion.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
