Title: Human placental lactogen (HPL) levels in maternal serum during abortion induced by intra- and extra-amniotic injection of prostaglandin F2a. Author: Ylikorkala O, Pennanen S. Journal: J Obstet Gynaecol Br Commonw; 1973 Oct; 80(10):927-31. PubMed ID: 4757501. Abstract: Human placental lactogen (HPL) concentrations in maternal serum were measured by double antibody radioimmunoassay in 25 patients who were undergoing abortion by intra- and extra-amniotic injection of prostaglandin F2alpha (PGF2alpha) and by extra-amniotic injection of hypertonic saline during the 1st and 2nd trimesters of pregnancy. Injection of 150 millimeters of 20% NaC1 failed to change the HPL level, but the extra-amniotic injection of 5-6 mg of PGF2alpha and the intra-amniotic injection of 20-25 mg of PGF2alpha decreased the serum HPL level significantly in the 2 hours following the injections. PGF2alpha administered by intrauterine routes seemed to have a direct effect on the placental synthesis and/or the secretion of HPL in early pregnancy.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
