Title: Ultrastructural signs of an interference in the carbohydrate metabolism of human endometrium produced by the intrauterine copper-T device. Author: Nilsson O, Hagenfeldt K, Johannisson E. Journal: Acta Obstet Gynecol Scand; 1974; 53(2):139-49. PubMed ID: 4822346. Abstract: Electron-microscopic changes induced in human uterine epithelium were studied by biopsies in 4 women before and after insertion of a copper-T IUD on cycle days 10-12 and 20-23; a control group of 3 women having a Tatum-T device without copper was also studied. The copper-influenced endometria differed from the controls by lacking light areas in the cytoplasm. The light areas are associated with carbohydrate metabolism and their lack might indicate an imparied degradation of glycogen. This would lead to a faulty secretory activity of the epithelium which in turn could result in an interference on the viability of the blastocyst.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
