  • Title: Lipids in the Harder's gland of certain rodents. III: Glycolipids.
    Author: Bareggi R, Narducci-Bareggi P, Crescenzi A.
Journal: Basic Appl Histochem; 1979; 23(2):165-9. PubMed ID: 533512.
    Abstract:
Following the study of total lipid and phospholipid contents of Harderian gland, we carried out analysis of glycolipid fractions. The data showed that most of the pigment is bound to mono-hexose ceramides, while only a minor fraction of it is bound to ceramides and/or to phospholipids. Histochemical studies confirmed the lipid and glycolipid nature of the Harder's gland secretion. The presence of mono-hexose ceramides linked to the characteristic fluorescent porphyrin was shown.
