Title: [Liver function in patients using depot anti-ovulation agents]. Author: Rodríguez Argüelles J. Journal: Ginecol Obstet Mex; 1970 Jan; 27(159):107-13. PubMed ID: 5441510. Abstract: 30 fertile women, 30 years of age on the average, gynecologically and endocrinologically healthy, and without precedents of liver disease, were studied. Each subject received an im injection of dihydroxyprogesterone acetophenide, 150 mg, and estradiol enanthate 10 mg, on the 7th or 8th day of the cycle, for 13-20 cycles. Before and at the end of the study the following liver function tests were performed: bromosulphalein, cephalin, thymol (turbidity and flocculation), SGOT, and SGPT. The bromosulphalein level declined from an average of 4.8% before treatment to an average of 10.06% at the end of the study. 11 women showed retention levels higher than 10%. The cephalin tests showed only insignificant changes. The turbidity and flocculation of thymol showed a very moderate increase after treatment. The transaminase tests showed little change. The findings confirm those reported in other studies on oral contraceptives. It is possible to predict a decrease in the excretory function of the liver, which is reversible and without other signs of liver dysfunction.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
