  • Title: [Morphological variations of the endometrium after insertion of an intrauterine device. Study of 105 curettage biopsies].
Author: Ben Jilani S, Gargoucha, Cammoun M.
Journal: Tunis Med; 1979; 57(2-3):137-40. PubMed ID: 553343.
    Abstract:
This study examines morphological modifications of the endometrium in 105 IUD wearers. Endometrial biopsies were performed after IUD removal. 57 women had complained of menometrorrhagia, especially those wearing the Lippes Loop. Time of utilization of the IUD was an average of 31 months. Normal biopsies were found in 37.2% of Lippes Loop wearers, and in 25.6% of Dalkon Shield wearers. Minor lesions were found in about 30% of all patients, while major lesions, often causing endometritis, were found more often in Dalkon Shield wearers. Duration of insertion, however, did not seem to be related to the gravity of lesions.
