  • Title: [The incidence of perinatal mortality in the town of Ancona from 1973 to 1977].
    Author: Rossi R.
Journal: Minerva Ginecol; 1979; 31(7-8):553-6. PubMed ID: 573420.
    Abstract:
Infant and fetal deaths for the years 1973-1977 was studied for the province of Ancona, Italy. There were, during that period, 10,096 deliveries, and 295 cases of perinatal mortality. Of these 209 deaths were within the first 7 days of life, and 86 after the 26th week of gestation. Data show that while perinatal mortality remained constant, neonatimortality decreased, possibly because of improved medical care, especially in the field of prompt screening of pregnancies at risk. Perinatal mortality in Italy in 1973 was 31.2%, a rate almost twice as high as that of more developed countries. Sensible differences in perinatal death rate exist between north and south Italy.
