Title: Vervent monkey disease. Transmission to the hamster. Author: Simpson DI. Journal: Br J Exp Pathol; 1969 Aug; 50(4):389-92. PubMed ID: 5806428. Abstract: Vervet monkey disease has been successfully transmitted to hamsters but only after at least 9 consecutive hamster passages following initial inoculation of monkey material previously passages 9 times in guinea-pigs and 3 times in monkeys. A uniformly fatal illness was produced in suckling hamsters at the 9th passage level. The disease in hamsters can be distinguished from that produced in guinea-pigs and monkeys in that it produces signs of encephalitis and the brain contains high levels of the infective agent.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
