Title: Positive controls for fungal detection in tissue sections. Author: Elias JM, Johnsen TA. Journal: Am J Med Technol; 1976 Aug; 42(8):277-8. PubMed ID: 60881. Abstract: Lyophilized Histoplasma capsulatum, Coccidioides immitis, Blastomyces dermatitidis and Aspergillus fumigatus are rehydrated, evenly dispersed, and made into smears using a bacteriological loop and alcohol-cleaned slides. Smears are air dried for 15 minutes, fixed in concentrated formaldehyde fumes for 30 minutes, postfixed for one hour in ten per cent buffered formaldehyde, and stored at room temperature. These preparations are used as positive controls for the Grocott stain as recommended for confirmation of fungi detected in tissue sections.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
