    Abstract:
    The inhibitory effects of somatostatin on gastric acid secretion have been studied in dogs equipped with a gastric fistula. Somatostatin was a strong inhibitor of pentagastrin-stimulated acid secretion and appeared to act in a non-competitive manner. However, it was a weak inhibitor of histamine-stimulated acid secretion and in this case appeared to act in a competitive manner.
