  • Title: Evidence for a role of neurotransmitters in the mechanism of topical convulsant models.
    Author: Craig CR.
Journal: Fed Proc; 1984 Jul; 43(10):2525-8. PubMed ID: 6145629.
    Abstract:
In numerous studies on several species, alterations in putative neurotransmitters have been examined in a variety of topical models of epilepsy. The results of such studies provide evidence for alterations in the concentration of some neurotransmitters, alterations in the activity of synthetic and/or degradative enzymes, and alterations in uptake mechanisms and receptor density. The neurotransmitters for which the most consistent data are available include gamma-aminobutyric acid, acetylcholine, and glutamic and aspartic acids.
