  • Title: The inner laryngeal lymphatics. A lymphangioscopical and electron microscopical study.
    Author: Beck C, Mann W.
Journal: Acta Otolaryngol; 1980; 89(3-4):265-70. PubMed ID: 6156570.
    Abstract:
Lymphangioscopical and ultrastructural studies of the larynx reveal a lymphatic capillary and a collecting vessel system. Collecting vessels show luminal valves and elastic structural components within the wall. Lymphangioscopy reveals that a strict compartmentation of different laryngeal areas is unjustifiable with the exception made for the capillaries of the free margin of the true vocal cords. Multiple anastomoses of capillaries and collecting vessels enhance midline- and vertical plane-crossing lymphatic drainage. These collaterals are gaining importance in case of impediment of the physiologic drainage pathway.
