  • Title: Cytochemical observations on the cortical zone of oocytes of Gallus domesticus.
    Author: Saxena RC, Sahai YN.
Journal: Acta Morphol Neerl Scand; 1981 Dec; 19(4):311-20. PubMed ID: 6172957.
    Abstract:
A cytochemical study of the cortical zone has been made in the early oocyte, during oogenesis and during pre- and post-vitellogenic stages of Gallus domesticus. The cortical zone of oocyte is not well-developed in the pre- and post-vitellogenic stages. Cytochemically, the cortical zone consists of proteins, carbohydrates, ribonucleic acid and lipids of L1, L2 and L3 types along with mitochondrial granules. A possible mechanism of transport of lipids and mitochondria from the follicular epithelium to the cortical ooplasm has been suggested.
