  • Title: Proliferative diabetic retinopathy and patient age: presentation, prognosis, and management.
    Author: Valone J.
Journal: Int Ophthalmol Clin; 1984; 24(4):71-82. PubMed ID: 6209239.
    Abstract:
The elderly diabetic with PDR may present with problems in differential diagnosis. The less marked tendency toward symmetry among the elderly may argue against prophylactic panretinal photocoagulation in a fellow eye, especially if the eye with PDR does not have high-risk characteristics. Anticoagulation can complicate management. Aspirin and other medications that interfere with clotting should be discontinued if possible.
