  • Title: [Syncopes and transitory neurologic manifestations revealing cervico-occipital joint malformations. Evidence of a vascular mechanism].
Author: Rousseaux M, Salomez JL, Petit H.
Journal: Sem Hop; 1983 Mar 17; 59(11):729-32. PubMed ID: 6304895.
    Abstract:
Two cases of cervico-occipital malformation revealed by syncopes are reported. The first patient has an Arnold-Chiari type I malformation and the second has a basilar impression. The paroxysmal clinical manifestations are triggered by head-turning or exertion. In the second case Doppler vertebral artery recordings show circulatory arrest during a moderate turning motion of the head. A vascular mechanism may explain the occurrence of paroxysmal symptoms in cervico-occipital malformations.
