Title: [Evaluation of the role of radical mastectomy, postoperative radiation and chemotherapy in stage IIb (TI-2NIMO) breast cancer]. Author: Demidov VP, Stranadko EF, Bazhenova AP, Volkova MA, Starinskiĭ VV. Journal: Vopr Onkol; 1983; 29(9):85-91. PubMed ID: 6314663. Abstract: The paper deals with the first results of a joint study carried out at a number of oncological institutions of the RSFSR. It was concerned with evaluation of the role of Holstead's radical operation, postoperative radiation and chemotherapy in patients with stage IIb (TI, 2NIMO) breast cancer. 822 history cases were analysed. Recurrences and metastases were detected in 12.6% of surgical patients (regional--3.2%, distant metastases--in 9.4%). A slightly lower frequency of recurrences and metastases (11.4%) was recorded in group II (Holstead's operation and postoperative radiation treatment). The lowest frequency was in group III: recurrences were 2.1 times less frequent than in study group 1 and 1.9 times less frequent than in group II. As for metastasis incidence, the figures were 2.2 and 2.1, respectively. The data obtained serve as a basement for further development of joint studies on the use of combined therapy of stage IIb breast cancer including chemotherapy.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
