    Abstract:
    The oxidative processes in Saccharomyces cerevisiae were shown to be more susceptible to the toxic effect of cysteine as compared to the glycolytic processes. When cysteine was added to a suspension of resting cells, the activity of catalase and oxygen uptake decreased, particularly in the yeast was grown in a medium preventing catabolyte repression. As was demonstrated using disc-electrophoresis in acrylamide gel, cysteine decreased the activity of catalases T and A.
