Title: Contrast media in abdominal computed tomography. A double blind clinical trial comparing a non-ionic (iohexol) and an ionic (metrizoate) contrast medium. Author: Skalpe IO, Ostensen HM. Journal: Eur J Radiol; 1984 Feb; 4(1):74-5. PubMed ID: 6373261. Abstract: Abdominal computed tomography was performed in 55 patients before and after intravenous injection of 60 ml of a non-ionic (iohexol) or an ionic (metrizoate) contrast medium. The adverse effects were recorded and a series of measurements of attenuation values before and after the contrast medium injection was performed in the aorta and in hepatic and renal parenchyma. Only minor adverse effects were seen with both contrast media, but iohexol was clearly better tolerated than metrizoate. No difference in the enhancement properties was found between the two contrast media.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
