Abstract: The author describes the actual state of research of normocalcemic tetany. Since 1959 the infusion test with ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA) has won a central position. The EDTA test gives the possibility to classify tetanic symptoms into the circle either of hypocalcaemic or normocalcaemic syndrome.
