  • Title: [Radiobiology in clinical trials for fast neutron therapy, with special reference to the treatment of malignant melanoma].
    Author: Tsunemoto H, Morita S, Ishikawa T, Mori S.
Journal: Gan No Rinsho; 1983 Oct; 29(13):1554-60. PubMed ID: 6422097.
    Abstract:
Clinical trials with fast neutrons have been advocated by the features of the beam, characterized by low oxygen enhancement ratio as well as low repair capability of the irradiated cells. The results show that for selected tumors, locally advanced, local control rates were excellent, whereas the effects of the beam have not been fully satisfied on the treatment of advanced carcinoma of the tongue and squamous cell carcinoma of the uterine cervix. Evaluating the results treating the patients suffering from malignant melanoma, the meaning of radiobiology was discussed in use of high LET radiations for clinical radiotherapy.
