  • Title: [Plasma lipoproteins and their interaction with cells].
    Author: Klimov AN.
Journal: Ukr Biokhim Zh (1978); 1984; 56(3):345-54. PubMed ID: 6464208.
    Abstract:
Modern ideas on interaction of blood plasma lipoproteins with a cell and lipid transport to and out of the cell are considered. Receptor-mediated uptake of low-density lipoproteins by the parenchymatous and connective-tissue type cells as well as nonregulated endocytic uptake of native and modified lipoproteins by the macrophagal type cells are shown to play a certain part in maintaining cholesterol homeostasis in the organism. Characterization is given for conditions under which there occur accumulation of lipoprotein cholesterol in a cell and formation of a foamy cell a "precursor and companion" of the atherosclerotic affection of arteries.
