  • Title: The gastric mucosa in duodenal, gastric, and prepyloric ulceration.
    Author: Lawson HH.
Journal: Scand J Gastroenterol Suppl; 1984; 92():156-62. PubMed ID: 6588506.
    Abstract:
The amount of normal mucosa, and mucosa affected by chronic gastritis has been measured in 6 human partial gastrectomy specimens. Two were resected for duodenal ulceration, 2 for prepyloric and 2 for gastric ulceration. Of the 2 duodenal ulcer specimens, one was resected for the usual type of ulcer, the second for Giant duodenal ulcer. The amount of gastritis seen was least in the usual type of duodenal ulcer, more in prepyloric ulcer, and greatest in gastric ulceration where most of the damaged mucosa was in relation to the lesser curvature. Giant duodenal ulceration seems to represent a specific condition, with clinical manifestation that are different from the usual type of duodenal ulcer. The amount of chronic atrophic gastritis seen in this condition, is more than occurs in either the usual type of duodenal ulcer, or in prepyloric ulceration. It is almost as much as is seen in gastric ulceration.
